The winningest coach in NCAA basketball history has released some details about her health problems and vowed to continue leading the Lady Vols this season. Pat Summitt has been diagnosed with early-onset dementia.
In an open letter posted on UT’s website, the 59-year-old Summitt says she’s determined to keep coaching and is planning for her 38th season at UT, though she may have some “limitations.”
“I plan to continue to be your coach. For that reason, I will be relying on my outstanding coaching staff like never before.”
Summitt has the support of administrators. She says her life and basketball program have always been an open book, but she asks at the end of a video statement for privacy on this issue.
