A Month Before Hall Of Fame Induction, Second Member Of The Browns Diagnosed With Cancer

Lung Cancer has hit The Browns for the second time in quick succession.

Jim Ed Brown died from the disease in June. Now, his sister Bonnie says she has adenocarcinoma in her right lung, despite never having been a smoker.

The Browns, which also included sister Maxine, had a crossover hit in 1959 with a song called “The Three Bells.” The following year, they sang at the first meeting of the Country Music Association. From that point on, Bonnie Brown says they were hungry to make it into the Hall of Fame.

She’s glad her brother got to hear the news before his death that their group was finally selected for the honor. Her own treatment begins this week in Arkansas, but Brown says that won’t keep her from making the long-awaited date in Nashville.

“I’m gonna be here October 25^th for this medallion ceremony,” she says. “I’m determined.”

As for her health, Brown says her form of cancer is different from Jim Ed’s. Her prognosis seems to be better. But, Brown says, she’ll never sing again.
