Metro high schools are adding new options for students hoping to earn an advanced diploma recognized around the world. Metro is adding a program from the University of Cambridge in England.
It’s called the Cambridge AICE, or Advanced International Certificate of Education.
“It is the British A-level exam – it is equivalent to the International Baccalaureate program.
Jay Steele, Metro’s associate superintendent over high schools, says four high schools will add the program next year, and three others in 2014. He says such programs aim to give high achievers a credential that universities abroad will recognize.
“We’re making a lot of changes and trying to raise the rigor, and change the perception of what these schools are – they’re different places now.”
Steele says Metro will also expand its International Baccalaureate program to a third high school.
