A New York-based paper company announced Monday that it will close its facility in Portland, Tennessee, which makes fabrics used in paper production.
In a statement, Albany International Corporation said the downsizing stems from consolidation of its customer base accelerated by the economic recession.
156 employees will lose their jobs. The company says it will offer severance pay and help place workers in new jobs. Operations will begin moving from Portland to another facility in North America immediately. Albany International’s operations are largely conducted outside the U-S, in Canada and Brazil.
