Amazon is looking for 2,000 people to work at its new distribution center in Lebanon. Many of the positions are expected to be filled in a single day at a job fair next week.
The jobs only last until December. But Jeff Hentschel with the state’s labor department says many of the area’s estimated 30,000 unemployed would be happy with even temporary work. He says the online retail giant is providing a rare chance in today’s job market.
“They want to start hiring and be up and running in October, so it’s just a great opportunity for people to walk in and walk out immediately with work.”
Working for Amazon isn’t easy. It requires standing for shifts that can last eight to 12 hours and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. The pay starts at roughly $11 an hour.
A staffing company will be conducting interviews at The Mill in Lebanon starting at 9 am next Thursday.
