Today in Nashville, about 300 people symbolically delivered so-called “negative valentines” meant for Senator Bob Corker. The group of union members and supporters are angry that Corker voted against both the federal stimulus package and the auto industry bailout.
Senator Lamar Alexander also opposed the measures, and he was mentioned at the rally. But Corker’s vocal opposition to the bills drew greater attention from folks like Siobhan Sargent. The twenty-five year-old divinity student at Vanderbilt University helped organize the campaign which sent about 8000 handwritten letters to the Senator.
If we want to really support this economy we have to support the working class because that’s really gonna turn this country around.
The group didn’t call for Corker to take any specific new action. Instead, the rally turned into a call for voters to replace the senator when he runs for reelection in 2012.
