AT&T announced Monday it’s offering gigabit-speed internet to more Nashville residences, and it’s focusing on luxury apartment buildings.
The company has expanded to a couple dozen properties in Middle Tennessee, including Pine Street Flats in the Gulch and the Lofts at Taylor Place in Germantown. These are buildings where 500-square-foot studio apartments start at $1,200 to $1,400 a month, and that offer amenities like free gyms and dog parks.
AT&T works with buildings like these in part because their owners want to attract residents with even better amenities, like high-speed internet, says Todd Flack. Flack oversees the AT&T division that reaches out to apartment owners and developers.
But these aren’t the only households they’re targeting, he says.
“I would say that we still have a strong opportunity for the rest of Nashville, while acknowledging that these are very, very extravagant locations.”
He says residents can nominate their own homes on AT&T’s website.
AT&T GigaPower has also expanded to several multifamily properties in Smyrna, Murfreesboro and Clarksville. It makes economic sense to focus on apartment buildings, Flack says, because the company can reach many customers in one building.
Some single-family homes are eligible to sign up for the higher-speed internet, although AT&T won’t say how many or where.
This expansion comes as rival Comcast begins marketing its own gigabit-speed internet in Nashville.
