Cooper Receives Non-Partisan Award for Budget ‘Courage’

Metro Council Calls Special Meeting Over Charter Trigger Law

The chair of the Metro Council’s education committee has called a special meeting to discuss a state law allowing parents to essentially take over school. The never-before-used trigger law permits petitioners to convert a public school into a charter.

August Makes Four Months of Rising Unemployment

Unemployment in Tennessee inched up for the fourth month in a row. The rate for August released Thursday was 8.5 percent. Tennessee is moving the opposite direction of the national jobless rate, which dropped to 8.1 percent last month.

Dean Calls Great Hearts Penalty ‘Serious’ But Appropriate

The Metro school board is getting what it deserves, according to Nashville Mayor Karl Dean. State education officials are withholding $3.4 million as a penalty for twice-violating a state order to approve Great Hearts Academies.

BNY Mellon Expanding Data Processing Center

Investment management company BNY Mellon is expanding its Nashville data center. The facility is one of just three the investment management company has in the U.S. Construction is supposed to create 500 local jobs.

Fort Campbell Troops Maintain Training Through Joint Mission Questions

Even as U.S. troops scale back joint operations with Afghan forces, soldiers soon to deploy from Fort Campbell continue training for their partnering role. Their mission calls for embedding with Afghan units, despite a rash of insider attacks.

THA Warns of Hospital Closures Due to Federal Cuts

Expanding Sheriff Powers Splits Metro Council Members
