Nashville Fast-Food Workers To Ask For $15 Hourly In Wave Of Strikes

Dozens of workers at fast-food chains around Nashville are going on strike Thursday. The day marks the latest in a series coordinated national events this year, and the first such strike in Nashville. Workers are calling to be paid $15 hourly.

Wrangling Over Ballpark’s Financial Risk, Council Poises For Key Vote

The proposed new ballpark for the Nashville Sounds faces a pivotal vote in the Metro Council Tuesday night. Committee members wrangled Monday over whether the deal should put the baseball team on the hook for more financial risk.

Mayor To State: Nashville Is First To Need Mass Transit, Won’t Be Last

Nashville Mayor Karl Dean says there’s a case for his new bus proposal to get some funding from the state.  Right now all eyes are on whether the project, known as the Amp, wins federal money – which Dean hopes would make up almost half the Amp’s budget.

All’s Fair In Metro Vs. State ‘Food Fight’ Against Hunger

350 pounds per person. That’s how much food the Metro Arts Commission donated to Second Harvest Food Bank. All part of the annual “food fight” between workers for the state and the City of Nashville, to see who can haul in more to feed needy families.

State Holds Its Cards Close On Nashville’s Bus Proposal

Neither Governor Bill Haslam nor his top transportation official has shown much enthusiasm for Nashville’s new bus proposal, known as the Amp.  But at a state budget hearing today, neither would fully rule out helping pay for the project, either.

New Stadium Proposal Clears Hurdle With State Executives

The plan for a new ballpark near downtown Nashville got the blessing today of a panel of top Tennessee officials.  As part of the fast-moving deal, the state is trading some land with the city, which is also giving it millions of dollars to build two new parking garages.

Members of the Metro Council are frustrated there aren’t more chances to weigh in on a proposed ballpark near the state capitol.  Executives on Tennessee’s Building Commission gave notice last week they’ll take comments from the public later this morning.
