First State Redacted Too Much From Child-Death Files, Now It’s Cut Too Little

The state may have gone from revealing too little in files it’s giving to reporters, to revealing too much. The Department of Children’s Services is handing over sensitive records about kids who died in state custody, after a lawsuit from a media coalition led by the Tennessean.

Law Arming Some Teachers In Tennessee Schools Won’t Affect Insurance Rates For Now

Some Tennessee teachers could carry guns in class this year, but whether they do or not likely won’t depend on how it affects their school’s insurance rates.  This school year retired police will be allowed to carry in class, though it seems few if any will.

Tougher Teacher’s License Renewal Raises Questions Over Exemption

The state school board is facing a tough question of when to allow an exception as it raises the bar on teachers renewing their licenses.  Tennessee’s board of education is putting off approval of the new rule until at least next month.

Backers Of The Amp Find Support In Rockefeller Survey

Backers of a proposed bus-rapid transit line across Nashville are touting results from a survey out Wednesday from the Rockefeller Foundation.  The New York-based philanthropy found most Nashvillians would take the bus instead of driving, if it sped up their commute.

Staff Sergeant From Fort Campbell Killed In Afghanistan

A 25-year-old soldier from Fort Campbell died Monday in Afghanistan. Staff Sergeant Sonny Christopher Zimmerman was killed on patrol by a rocket-propelled grenade in Paktiya Province.

Amid Questions Over State Contract, Plan To Demolish Historic Nashville Building Will Get A Second Look

Tennessee lawmakers got a chance Tuesday to ask questions over a state contract that sparked allegations of cronyism.  A growing deal to manage state office space went to contractor Jones Lang LaSalle, in which Governor Bill Haslam once held a stake before moving his investments to a blind trust.
