Tennessee city accused of botching rape investigations agrees to $28M settlement

A Tennessee city has approved a $28 million settlement in a lawsuit that said police deliberately botched investigations into a suspect accused in multiple lawsuits of drugging and sexually assaulting dozens of women. Johnson City commissioners voted Thursday to settle the case.

Court lets Tennessee porn site age verification law take effect as Texas law goes to Supreme Court

Citing First Amendment grounds, a district court judge had largely blocked Tennessee’s law from kicking in on Jan. 1 while a legal challenge continued. The Free Speech Coalition, an adult entertainment trade group, filed the lawsuit over Tennessee’s law and those in a half-dozen other states.

Tennessee governor repays trip after ethics panel finds a group shouldn’t have covered it
