An auto supplier that makes parts for Nissan and Volkswagen announced today they’ll open a plant in Shelbyville.
Michigan-based SMW Automotive says the factory will create 170 jobs over the next five years.
SMW makes parts of brakes and chasses, as well as wheel hubs. State officials say the $26 million investment is part of the ripple effect of bringing major car-makers to Tennessee.
The news comes roughly a month after another supplier, NHK, announced it will build a $54 million facility and employ more than 200 workers in Murfreesboro. NHK makes seats, and that plant will also supply Nissan.
