Democrats in Tennessee were hard to find on election night. Republican John McCain, as expected, carried the state. Democrat Barack Obama posted wins in only six of Tennessee’s 95 counties: Davidson, Haywood, Houston, Jackson, Hardeman and Shelby.
Though the election results are unofficial, with all precincts reporting, McCain won 56.94% of the vote in Tennessee. President-elect Obama won 41.77% of the vote.
Democratic challengers trying to win congressional and state legislative seats in Tennessee couldn’t replicate the big gains that were posted nationwide.
