The largest shareholder in Cracker Barrel says the company’s board chairman has misrepresented his qualifications. The accusation comes as Sardar Biglari is trying for the second time to win seats on that board.
Cracker Barrel executives say they’re proud of board chair James Bradford. He’s dean of Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management. Before that, company officials say he was the CEO of a company “listed on the New York Stock Exchange.”
But Cracker Barrel’s largest shareholder—Sardar Biglari—says that’s not true. In a letter to other investors, he says the company where Bradford served as chief executive-AFG Industries-wasn’t listed on the exchange during his tenure.
Biglari says he wants an independent investigation to see if Bradford misrepresented his qualifications to the board.
Biglari has made no secret of his disdain for the current leadership at Cracker Barrel, saying they haven’t done enough to increase the restaurant chain’s profits.
He and an associate will try to win seats on the board at the company’s annual meeting next month.
A spokeswoman for Cracker Barrel says they’re reviewing Biglari’s letter and will “respond in due course.”
