It’s a place where wood is cut into lumber, a facility that fueled the livelihood and expansion of many a rural Bluegrassland community. In the early 1900’s the largest enterprise of this ilk in the entire world was located in Georgetown, SC where the Atlantic Lumber Company floated logs from Appalachian Mountains down the Pee Dee River to the operation. No wonder such places are enshrined in Bluegrassland story and song.
