Some of the first passengers on a new direct flight to Boston ate New England clam chowder at the gate and taxied to the runway under a water cannon salute.
The BNA-to-Boston route was sorely needed, according to Nashville International Airport officials. Southwest Airlines’ one flight a day is the only nonstop service between the two cities.
To mark the occasion, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean led a delegation to Boston. Dean’s office says that while the mayor is a Massachusetts-native, the trip is “all business.” He’s joining Boston’s mayor for an event Tuesday.
