Investment management company BNY Mellon is expanding its Nashville data center. The facility is one of just three the investment management company has in the U.S. Construction is supposed to create 500 local jobs.
BNY Mellon is a global firm managing an unimaginable $27 trillion in assets. But company officials made sure to say at the ground breaking that workers would be hired locally. Dan Gaffney is vice president over critical infrastructure.
“We do have a competitive bid process, but predominantly the Tennessee folks are going to win these bids.”
Gaffney says the existing building was constructed in 2005 primarily by Tennessee firms.
The facility is hidden from view off Brick Church Pike in North Nashville. It handles some five trillion transactions a day and requires the same amount of electricity it would take to run 10,000 homes.
State officials say they have discussed economic incentives for the expansion but have not finalized a deal.
