In his bid to win re-election as governor, Phil Bredesen is again going after NASCAR fans.
Bredesen is sponsoring driver Ronnie Campbell in the NASCAR Super Truck series hoping to win votes in this fall’s Governor’s race.
Bredesen, who also sponsored Campbell in 2002, is spending $30,000 to place his campaign logo on the truck.
Campbell says NASCAR is a perfect fit for Bredesen’s campaign.
“We’re probably the second highest populated state of NASCAR fans in the country next to North Carolina, and that is because NASCAR is based there. There is a lot of NASCAR fans in the state of Tennessee.”
Bredesen is also sponsoring a legends car —a replica of the classic cars driven by the NASCAR racers in the 1950s and 60s.
The car will travel with Bredesen to campaign appearances.
