Specialist Michael Roberts
A car bomb killed a soldier from the 101st Airborne Division over the weekend in Kandahar city, Afghanistan. The Department of Defense says Specialist Michael Roberts was a Military Policeman.
Casualties have slowed as the division has largely returned from Afghanistan, but an Army spokesman says there are still roughly 7,000 soldiers deployed.
Roberts joined the Army in 2007 and arrived at Fort Campbell earlier this year. The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports the 23-year-old was the youngest of three brothers, all of them soldiers.
He is survived by his parents, who live in Watauga, Texas.
