Car sharing is making a debut in Nashville. Starting today, the company Zipcar will begin offering service on the campuses of Belmont and Vanderbilt universities.
School officials say they hope the car-sharing experiment could ease traffic congestion and reduce the number of cars trying to park on campus.
The deal with zipcar requires students to pay 35-dollars to sign up. Then they can reserve a car for 7-dollars an hour or 60-dollars a day. Belmont has two dedicated vehicles. Vanderbilt has five.
Zipcar is already available in major metropolitan areas across the country, as well as college campuses like Georgetown, Harvard and the University of North Carolina.
