Last night the Metro Council began its discussion on a proposed ban on cell-phone use while driving.
Councilman Jamie Isabel is sponsoring the bill that would impose a 50-dollar fine if Nashville drivers were found using a cell-phone without a hands-free head-set.
“We’re going to have a public hearing locally and bring in experts to really deal with the importance, the issue of the cell phones. Since 1990, 4.3-million people had cell phones. Now 212-million people have cell phones. So this is a national impact. This is a problem that we’re dealing with and we’ve got to address it from a logical point of view.”
Emergency workers and law enforcement officers would be exempt, along with drivers making 911 or other emergency calls.
