CheapHotels Says Nashville’s Rooms Are Anything But

A nationwide survey ranks Nashville the most expensive city in the U.S. for lodging the month of October.

According to CheapHotels.org, it’ll cost you $261 on average for a room at a decently-reviewed, centrally located hotel in Nashville. The next most expensive city is Boston, Massachusetts, followed by Washington D.C.

Jenny Jordan, here this week from Little Rock, Arkansas, for a work conference, felt the burn immediately when she tried to book a group of rooms.

“We are staying in a hotel that is about 25 minutes from here and it was still $170 a night,” she says. “We couldn’t afford to stay closer in.”

To save some cash, James and Patricia Beatty from South Jersey chose an Extended Stay America, a few miles outside downtown. Beatty says he’d rather spend less and commute in.

“We are here to see this,” he looks around, “not stay in a hotel room.”

In recent years, Nashville has seen a spike in demand for lodging as its population grows and tourism surges. More than 3,000 rooms are under construction, according to the city’s Convention & Visitors Corporation. CVC president Butch Spyridon says the new hotels should help to ease the rate spike.

October is also the busiest month of the year, which Spyridon says causes rates to go even higher. But
he has argued that if prices don’t drop soon, some visitors might stop coming.
