Tennessee has what is – in theory – the best city for women looking to marry. Clarksville – home to Fort Campbell – has a higher ratio of employed bachelors to single women than any other place in the country. For every 100 women, there are 145 men with jobs age 25 to 34, according to a survey from Pew Research.
Time puts it this way: “It’s raining men, especially along the Tennessee-Kentucky border.”
Pew has been mapping the marriage market as the number of people who’ve never married reaches a record high of 20 percent. Nationwide, young single men outnumber their female counterparts.
But while Tennessee has the best marriage market for women, it also has two of the worst. Nashville has 77 employed bachelors for every 100 women. And Memphis actually tops the Pew survey for the hardest place for a woman to find a suitable mate. In Memphis, there are only 59 employed, young single men for every 100 young single women.
