Comedian Tracy Morgan has committed to returning to Nashville to make amends for what’s been characterized as an anti-gay tirade. The former Saturday Night Live cast member performed earlier this month at Ryman Auditorium.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation says in a news release it has spoken directly with Morgan, who committed to apologize to audience members offended by his remarks.
Morgan told the group he’s sorry for what he said and that he doesn’t want to use his comedy to hurt anyone. “Gay people deserve the same right to be happy” as everyone else, he said.
As part of his apology, Morgan will also appear in public service announcements in an anti-bullying campaign.
