Congressman Marsha Blackburn Says Trump’s Transgender Ban Should Be Respected

The Tennessee Congressman whose district includes Fort Campbell says the country doesn’t need or want hundreds of commanders-in-chief.  Marsha Blackburn says there’s only one, and his decision to ban transgender troops from the U.S. armed forces should be respected.

She also said President Trump’s action, delivered in a series of tweets, was well-vetted by numerous military leaders: “He contacted your field commanders, your [Department of Defense] leadership te​am, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs … He worked with the command team up and down, that’s what he’s supposed to do.”

The Tennessean reports that fellow Tennessee Republican Scott DesJarlais, a member of the House Armed Services Committee, also supported the president’s decision.

Yet it did seem to catch many in the military community by surprise.

Today, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs said the military will continue to treat all of its soldiers with respect. Marine Gen. Joe Dunford said there will be no change to the current policy until official guidance on the president’s direction comes from the Secretary of Defense.
