A few of Tennessee’s most conservative Republicans may not make Friday’s annual party fundraiser – the Statesmen’s Dinner. They object to the chosen speaker, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.
Nashville Tea Party organizer Ben Cunningham says Christie’s biggest skill is “compromising with big spending liberals.” He says The Republican Party’s pick to give a keynote address is “extremely unfortunate.”
“They went out of their way to choose someone who is completely out of sync with grassroots values,” Cunningham says.
State Rep. Andy Holt of Dresden says he’s boycotting the fundraiser out of protest and that several other lawmakers feel the same way.
“I simply cannot imply my support for Gov. Christie by attending this event,” Holt wrote on Facebook.
