Sen. Bob Corker speaks to a group of mostly senior citizens at a health care town hall in Shelbyville.
People who attended a health care town hall meeting with Senator Bob Corker Tuesday in Shelbyville spoke unanimously against the idea of creating a public insurance option.
Most are on a public option themselves as part of Medicare. Bill Fitzsimmons fears his benefits will be cut to fund a new program.
“They’re just robbing us poor folks.”
Senator Corker says he’s absolutely opposed to creating a public option. He says programs like Medicare that have projected deficits in the coming decades need to be fixed first.
“We need to make sure we make the commitments we’ve already made to people solvent first before we start leveraging and trying to add new entitlements.”
Corker, a Republican, says he hopes the current health care reform bill in the House gets trashed. He says it was written with good intentions but also just to get the votes to pass.
Senator Corker has another health care town hall meeting scheduled for 9:30 am Wednesday at Stones River Country Club in Murfreesboro.
