U.S. Senate committee assignments were finalized last week.
Tennessee’s Lamar Alexander was given the powerful “Ranking Member” title on the Appropriations’ subcommittee of Energy and Water. That group oversees funding for the Army Corps of Engineers and nuclear weapons laboratories, such as Oak Ridge in East Tennessee. Sen. Alexander was also named to four other committees.
Senator Bob Corker’s committee assignments include a spot on the powerful Banking committee, which plans to review the financial overhaul bill Congress passed last year. That measure created the new Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection.
Corker also remains the “Ranking Member” on the Special Committee on Aging.
