The Tennessee Department of Correction has announced plans to close the Charles Bass Correctional Complex Annex. The minimum security part of the facility – which houses work-release inmates – has been the site of several escapes, including one just last week.
Correction Commissioner Derrick Schofield says in a statement that the decision was made quickly but closure was already planned as part of a larger agency review.
The facility houses 320 inmates who will be reassigned to other prisons throughout the state. The Charles Bass Annex will remain vacant until upgrades are made. Permanent closure is also an option.
