FIFA toured Nashville and Nissan Stadium on Thursday as part of a 10-day tour of potential World Cup destinations.
Colin Smith is the events director for the association behind the World Cup, and he says everything so far in Nashville is living up to FIFA’s expectations.
“Driving through Lower Broadway last night on a Wednesday night, you know, the presentations weren’t a lie,” Smith said. “It is a very vibrant city, and there’s a lot of activity going on. I haven’t tried the hot chicken yet, but that’ll hopefully be next.”
If chosen, Nashville will host games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Smith says that while the stadium matters greatly, details like hotels, venues, training facilities and security matter just as much.
FIFA officials stayed in Nashville for one day before flying to Atlanta on Thursday night. Nashville is competing for the host spot alongside major cities like New York City, Los Angeles, Miami and more.
Correction: A previous version of this story said that FIFA officials were taking a 10-day tour of Nashville. In fact, they are taking a 10-day tour of multiple cities, including Nashville.
