Country Music Hall of Fame songwriter Cindy Walker left her 500-song catalogue to the museum when she died. Now the Hall of Fame wants to make her music famous on film.
Some of Cindy Walker’s songs have been remade over and over, like this one made famous by Eddy Arnold.
SONG: “To you I’m just a friend, that’s all I’ve ever been, cause you don’t know me.”
The Texan tunesmith never had children. But Country Music Hall of Fame director Kyle Young says Walker referred to her songs as her “babies.”
“In one of her files, we found this type written note to her “babies.” ‘Good bye my darling. You have been so good to me. You have made me rich and famous. I love you…you are the reason I am…and you are in the Hall of Fame.”
Walker’s catalogue has already produced $500,000 for the Hall of Fame. But now the museum has organized a project to produce even more revenue.
Country legends Vince Gill, Tony Brown and Fred Foster each will remake four of Walker’s songs then pitch them to movie producers. They’re donating their time and potential royalties to the Hall of Fame.
