Cracker Barrel is changing its logo back to the iconic man and barrel after the company’s new, more minimalist design sparked outcry from fans — and the White House.
The old man and barrel that have come to represent Cracker Barrel for decades were initially scrapped from the restaurant’s new logo. That move led to public outcry and sent the Lebanon-based company’s stock price tumbling.
The change drew ire, in particular, from MAGA supporters, who called the change “woke,” although the Tennessee-based company has previously come under scrutiny for its mass firing of LGBTQ employees in the early 1990s.
Still, the backlash made its way to the White House. President Trump posted on social media again on Tuesday to ask Cracker Barrel to bring back the old design.
“They got a Billion Dollars worth of free publicity if they play their cards right. Very tricky to do, but a great opportunity,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
In a statement to WPLN, Cracker Barrel confirmed that its beloved “old timer” and his barrel will be back.
“We thank our guests for sharing your voices and love for Cracker Barrel. We said we would listen, and we have. Our new logo is going away and our “Old Timer” will remain. At Cracker Barrel, it’s always been — and always will be — about serving up delicious food, warm welcomes, and the kind of country hospitality that feels like family.”
