Nashville mayor-elect Karl Dean met with outgoing mayor Bill Purcell (today/yesterday.)
Purcell says his one-time law director will hit the ground running with decades of experience in Metro government.
“Karl Dean comes in way ahead of any of the rest of us as this term begins. The advice I give him publicly is the advice I’d give him privately, and that’s pretty simple. You just need to be the guy they elected mayor.”
Dean beat out former Congressman Bob Clement by nearly a 5-percent margin in this week’s run-off election.
Dean will take the helm a week from (tomorrow/today), but he’s already named his transition team, led by former chief justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court A.A. Birch. Other members of the team include Lewis Lavine and Jennifer Gilligan Cole, leaders of two local non-profits. Public relations guru David Fox will also aid the transition with help from former campaign adviser and attorney Tom Lee, Dean’s campaign co-chair Pam Martin and former Purcell staffer Patrick Willard.
