Fundraising totals are in for candidates in Nashville’s city elections. Mayor Karl Dean took in more than $200,000 in the two-month reporting period. He now has more than $500,000 on hand for his re-election bid.
Dean raised more than $2 million during his first campaign for mayor. Roughly half came from his wife’s family wealth.
Dean’s challenger, Councilman Michael Craddock, seemingly took aim at that fact when announcing his comparatively modest fundraising of $14,000 over six weeks.
“35 years ago I married a lady I met cruising at Shoney’s in Madison,” Craddock says in a statement. “She is not a multi-millionaire.”
Election Day is August 4th.
