Dean Proposes New Downtown Police Precinct

A new capital spending plan includes a facelift to the backdoor of Bridgestone Arena and moving the downtown police precinct into a new building.

The downtown Nashville police precinct may be on its way out of Bridgestone Arena. A new $4 million headquarters has been added to the city’s building project priority list, which will be considered by the Metro Council later this month.

More than a hundred officers and detectives work out of the downtown precinct, in what commander Jason Reinbold calls “cramped office space.”

The proposal from Mayor Karl Dean would nearly double the square footage in a new building across the street from the soon-to-open Music City Center.

Dean’s mid-year update to the capital spending plan totals more than $100 million and includes sidewalks, sewers and the new public health center, already under construction.

Also new on the building list is a $7 million facelift for the backdoor of Bridgestone Arena, which faces the main entrance to the new convention center.
