A rare copy of the Declaration of Independence will visit the downtown Nashville library over the weekend.
It’s one of just 25 remaining copies of the Declaration that were printed on July 4, 1776, and the only copy touring the country.
It was discovered in 1989 hidden in a framed painting that was bought at a flea market. Movie producer Norman Lear owns it now, after buying it at auction for more than 8-million dollars. He’s formed a youth voter initiative called “Declare Yourself” that uses the historic document as part of a voter registration drive.
The timing is meant to coincide with Tuesday’s Presidential Debate at Belmont University. The document goes on display at the downtown library on Church Street tomorrow morning through Monday afternoon.
