A physician from a small town near Chattanooga rode the Republican wave last night to oust incumbent Congressman Lincoln Davis in Tennessee’s 4th Congressional district.
Scott DesJarlais ran on a platform of changing the balance of power in Washington. And when he won, the Republican’s first words to supporters weren’t about himself or his opponent.
“No one can accuse the great state of Tennessee for not doing its part to fire Nancy Pelosi.”
DesJarlais says he had a feeling he’d win, but that he never expected to finish with nearly two-thirds of the vote. He says the final results are a sign of dissatisfaction with Democratic leadership in Washington.
“It says that people are ready for less government, lower taxes, more freedom. That’s the message we’ve been sending out to District 4 and they’ve certainly responded.”
The political newcomer began his campaign as an unknown, but had financial backing of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
