Voters are continuing to break records at the polls in Tennessee. State Election Coordinator Brook Thompson says the latest early voting totals show 506-thousand people have voted so far.
That translates into a 45% increase over the last mid-term election cycle four years ago. Thompson says the Senate race between Republican Bob Corker and Democrat Harold Ford Jr. is driving the record-breaking increase.
“The numbers that we’re seeing are up across the board. It’s not just a matter of people getting comfortable with early voting. I think both campaigns – at least in the senate campaign have done a real good job of getting people out. I think we’ve seen a lot of it on TV so a lot of people are thinking about early voting, but that…that’s a pretty big number.”
Out of the four largest counties in Tennessee, Shelby County voters are turning out by a wide margin. 80,000 people have voted there so far compared to Davidson County, which ranks second in the state with 47,000 having voted early.
Early voting ends this Thursday, November 2nd.
