Beyond SNAP: Hunger in Tennessee

Blake Farmer
Peggy Martin, a retired nurse raising three grandkids in Hickman County, waits in line at a food distribution event on Saturday morning, November 8, 2025. She says, "if I had not been raised country, and knew how to survive, I would really be in a fix."

It’s now just a matter of time before federal SNAP benefits are restored — helping nearly 700,000 Tennesseans put food on the table.

But the government shutdown exposed just how many people struggle to keep their families fed. So we’re putting hunger at the center of our Roundabout episode today. We’ll bring you the latest on SNAP and food distributions. We’re also taking your calls about your own experience as a recipient or a volunteer. You can call in during showtime at 615-760-2000 or pop into chat on our live YouTube stream. And if you’ve got a pop-up feeding program, please share! It’s SNAP and hunger in the roundabout.

This episode was produced by Josh Deepan and Mary Mancini.
