It’s national Pet Appreciation Week! Our pets are like family — maybe even more so after these last two years — and many of us have recently seen an addition (or two!) to our households. In this show, we hear from cat people and dog people about the work they do taking care of the furries and finding the right forever homes.

Tasha Lemley

Bailey Johns hangs out with Smoky, one of the many cats up for adoption at The Catio.

But first, we talk supercomputers! Tennessee is home to the fastest computer in the world. We learn what that means and how long it might take until we have that kind of power in our pockets.

Guests:

  • Emily Siner, WPLN’s news director
  • Justin Whitt, program director for the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility
  • Brandy Yates, owner of The Catio and foster parent with Nashville Cat Rescue
  • Laurie Green, founding director of SAFPAW
  • Dr. Ranetta Perkins, owner of Little Urban Vet Clinic
  • Ian McClellan, owner of Set Free Dog Training
  • Noël Kiswiney, assistant director of marketing at Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary
