A task force working on future of the Tennessee State Fairgrounds met last night for the first time.
Last year, Nashville Mayor Karl Dean announced the city would take over control of the state fairgrounds from the Fair Board, effectively shutting down the state fair, though just last week a private company announced it will hold the fair this year.
Mayor Dean created the 10-member task force earlier this month in part, to address concerns from some metro council members and residents who protested the changes.
Stephanie McCullough with the Nashville Civic Design Center was appointed to the task force.
“The mission is to bring the community together to discuss the best uses for the fairground property and to make recommendations to the mayor based on that input.”
The group scheduled four public meetings this spring to find out how residents want to see the fairgrounds used. The first one is April 12th at 6:30 p.m. The group’s recommendations will likely come at the end of summer.
