Fans Cheer Record Weber Contract

Nashville Predators fans gathered outside Bridgestone Arena as the team paused to recognize the significance of the moment. The franchise has agreed to the largest contract in its history and the second largest ever in the NHL to keep team captain Shea Weber.

The 14-year, $110 million deal matches an offer the Philadelphia Flyers had extended to Weber. Predators chairman and co-owner Tom Cigarran says ponying up shows his team means business.

“Players who are with other organizations around the league and those organizations can now see the Nashville Predators will not be pushed around by teams from bigger markets.”

Cigarran says he doesn’t just want to survive, but to compete for the Stanley Cup each year.

Weber has been captain for the last two seasons. A smiling Cigarran says he looks forward to 14 more.
