The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved and dispersed up to $2 million so far from damage caused by tornadoes that struck Middle Tennessee in December. The deadline for enrollment is Feb. 12.
FEMA has already started giving those in need money to help recover from the tornadoes. While the FEMA recovery centers have been closed due to the snow, residents can still register online at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362.
Troy York, a media specialist with FEMA, says it’s important for anyone, even those who haven’t spotted any damage, to register before the February deadline.
“If you register and you have your FEMA registration number, then you can come back to FEMA if you discover a need after the 12th registration date,” said York.
York says after that date, those who haven’t registered will no longer be eligible to receive aid from FEMA.
For those who had to relocate outside of their county, York says feel free to go to a FEMA recovery center in your area and register.
For Davidson County tornado survivors, Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster will be hosting a survivor meeting and resource fair Tuesday, Jan. 23. VOAD will be helping people register for FEMA assistance as well as offering food, household supplies and more for those in need. Hot meals will be provided.
The survivor resource fair will be held at Cornerstone Church at 726 West Old Hickory Boulevard in Madison. It begins at 5:00 p.m.
