Fireworks Displays Called For Rain After Fire Fears In 2012

Last year it was hot and dry conditions that had towns around Middle Tennessee calling off fireworks displays. This year, the rainy forecast for the 4^th of July is having the same effect.

The city of Shelbyville has cancelled tomorrow night’s show, opting to try again on Labor Day. Tullahoma is also moving the fireworks to later in the summer. Maury County has pulled the plug on its event, and organizers throughout the region are keeping an eye on the radar.

A simple delay until Friday or Saturday night isn’t possible because rain is forecast throughout the weekend.

Festivities in Nashville are still planning to go ahead as scheduled, despite thunderstorms and being under a flash flood watch. Metro Police are expecting 140,000 people in and around downtown. However, the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp – which puts on the fireworks display – is preparing for “inclement weather.” A spokesperson says they are working with the National Weather Service and emergency officials.
