First National Review for Nutty Professor

The first national review for The Nutty Professor has been published online. Broadwayworld.com, which bills itself as the world’s largest theatre website, praises just about all of the show—from the costumes to the acting to the musical score.

The first assessment comes courtesy of Nashville-based writer Jeffrey Ellis. He has deep ties to Tennessee’s theatre scene, as a director and critic. Ellis lauded the show as a “nostalgic homage” to Broadway musicals of the past, but it’s the thoughts of other critics which could make or break the show’s chances of landing on Broadway.

The New York Times and trade magazines Variety and Back Stage have yet to weigh in on the musical. These three publications carry heavy weight amongst the movers and shakers in New York’s theatre world.

Actor-comedian Jerry Lewis has been working on The Nutty Professor for eight years. It’s based on his 1963 film of the same name.
