Piedmont Natural Gas says it will add a second filling station for vehicles in Middle Tennessee. Piedmont already has one in Nashville, and it’s banking on expansion in the world of cars powered by natural gas.
Piedmont says many of the cars in the area running on natural gas are fleet vehicles owned by companies. Piedmont has a few hundred between here and the Carolinas. AT&T says it has more than thirty in Middle Tennessee.
Piedmont spokesman David Trusty says part of the reason to add a second natural gas station is demand can spike when a company’s shift wraps up.
“They may go out, run their routes during the day, and then they all come back at once, ready to refill. And so to be efficient for their needs, as well as ours, it may behoove – which, we’ve gone through those kinds of decisions – good to have multiple stations so that all of a sudden you don’t have this long, long line of vehicles.”
Piedmont’s current station is in Donelson, near the airport. Trusty says it’s too soon to say exactly where the next location will open.
