Jean Heard (courtesty of Vanderbilt University)
A former first lady of Vanderbilt University has died. Jean Heard was 86.
She was married to former Chancellor Alexander Heard, who died in 2009. She was also a civic leader in her own right, as well as a classically trained musician. Jean Heard even worked as an announcer at WPLN in 1975.
The Heards were big backers of the Vanderbilt library, which bears their name. Jean Heard also played a key role in merging the Blair School of Music with the university in 1981.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Benton Chapel on the Vanderbilt campus.
