Pfc. Anthony Simmons
The Department of Defense announced Monday a Fort Campbell soldier died in Afghanistan late last week.
Pfc. Anthony Simmons joined the Army last year as an infantryman and was killed by a mortar attack on his combat outpost in Eastern Afghanistan Thursday.
The 25-year-old Simmons was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team. He’s survived by his mother in Tallahassee, Florida.
Fort Campbell has experienced a sharp uptick in casualties in the past two months. The post will have more than 20,000 troops deployed to Afghanistan by the end of the summer.
