The Defense Department announced the deaths of four soldiers from Fort Campbell over the weekend. All four men died in separate incidents in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Adam Dickmyer from Winston Salem, North Carolina, was the first of four casualties from the Army post near Clarksville. He died Thursday from a roadside bomb. Dickmyer also served as a guard for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
Spec. Pedro Maldonado was killed the following day in Kandahar Province. Both Maldonado and Dickmeyer were assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team. So was Spec. Brett Land, an Infantryman from California, who was killed Saturday.
Spec. Diego Solorzano-Valdovinos died in Germany where he was being treated for wounds he received from an insurgent attack.
All four men were in their 20’s.
About 17,000 Fort Campbell soldiers are currently deployed to Afghanistan.
