With polls officially closed and the early voting totals starting to roll in, Freddie O’Connell has emerged as the leader in the mayoral race.
O’Connell, former District 19 Metro councilmember and a software architect, leads with 65% of the vote. His opponent, business advisor and political strategist, Alice Rolli, trails him with 35%.
These results are based on Davidson County’s early voting totals — the first results of the night to arrive. They represent the nearly 72,000 people who cast ballots during the two-week early voting period.
In last month’s general election, in which O’Connell and Rolli advanced to today’s runoff, O’Connell secured 27% of the vote. Rolli won 20%. That field included a dozen candidates.
Additional tallies from ballots cast at polling places today are expected over the coming hours. WPLN News will have reporters on scene at candidate watch parties tonight.
